One of the topics that I discussed with the children is about Foods for Mind, and under that there goes subtopic of Raisins.
The raisins are dried grapes. All grapes are, however, not suitable for making raisins. The grapes, which are very sweet, are only selected for drying. Raisins have high nourishing qualities
In case if you don't know how Mr Raisins looks like, here are his favourite pose.

Nutritional Values

opppss... I can't make it anymore better, just intai a bit, maybe can benefits us.
Mr. Raisins is high in sugar: glucose and fructose contents, which is eight time higher than grapes. As is well known, glucose produces quick heat and energy in the body. Raisins are thus an excellent food in all cases of debility and wasting diseases. They are also valuable during convalescence.
In Europe, persons suffering from various chronic ailments are taking recourse to an exclusive diet of raisins for some time. This forms a treatment by itself and is known as 'raisin cure'. It is believed that raisins, taken in this manner, for one month will bring about considerable improvement in health as a result of proper elimination
1. Acidosis :- Acidosis is a condition in which the acidity of body fluid is abnormally high. The raisins with their excess of alkalinity, are helpful in maintaining the acid balance of the body. Studies conducted by Saywell in the University of California have shown that the free use of raisins, Say about 1.05 gm. daily, will greatly reduce the acidity of the urine. The urinary ammonia is also reduced. The organic acid of the raisins is completely oxidized. The free use of raisins is valuable in combating chronic acidosis which generally results from the excessive consumption of meat and cereals.
2. Constipation :- Raisins are highly beneficial in the treatment of constipation They should be soaked in a glassful of drinking water for 24 to 48 hours This would swell them .to the original Size of the grapes. They should be eaten early in the morning, after discarding the stones. The water in which raisins are soaked should also be drunk This plan carried out every morning will bring excellent results in case of chronic constipation. Raisins can be routinely given even to little infants as an extract in water to help regular bowel action. Six to ten raisins or more, depending on the child's age, can be soaked in boiling water and set aside for a while. When cool, the raisins should be thoroughly crushed to extract their juice into the water For small children, the liquid could be strained and given so that the skin of the raisins does not upset the stomach.
Well, there is three major elements to help overcoiming constipation, I repeat THREE; they are; fiber, fluids, and exercise. If you take raisins as per recommended, there goes your fiber together with the soaked water... now another one, please keep yourself ACTIVE!!
3. Anemia :- As a rich source of easily assimilate iron, raisins enrich blood They are thus useful in anemia.
4. Under Weight :- Raisins are a good food for those who wish to gain weight. They may be taken up to I Kg daily, 30 gm. or so at a time, in these cases. As an easy source of sugar, it will give you easy kCal also, so, by taking it more, you are adding more unused energy taht will be stored in your body. BUT, do exercise so that what you stocked up will be muscle rather than FAT.
5. Febrile Cases :- An extract from raisins acts like a medicine in febrile cases i.e. relating to fever This extract is prepared by soaking raisins in the water and then crushing them in the same water. They are then strained and skin is discarded. The raisin water thus prepared becomes a tonic A little lime juice added to the extract will enhance its taste and usefulness
6. Sexual Debility :- In Ayurveda, black raisins are used for restoration of sexual vigor. In such cases, they should be boiled with milk, after washing them thoroughly in tepid lukewarm water This will make them swollen and sweet. Eating of such raisins should be followed by the use of milk. Starting with 30 grams of raisins with 200 ml. of milk, three times daily. The quantity of raisins should be gradually increased to 50 grams each time.
7. Antioxidant Protection from Phenols - The phenols found in fruit have repeatedly been show to have antioxidant activity and to help prevent oxygen-based damage to cells in the body. The total antioxidant activity of many fruits and vegetables has been found to be exactly parallel to their total phenol content, and raisins take their place in this list right alongside prunes and apricots as an antioxidant-rich fruit. The flavonols (one type of phenol belonging to the flavonoid family) in raisins appear to be least affected by the grape-drying process, but raisins do contain fewer phenols than grapes since many of grape's phenols are largely lost in the conversion of grapes to raisins. These phenols include the hydroxycinnamics (caftaric and coutaric acids), procyanidins, and flavan-3-ols.
8. Boron for Better Bone Health - Although not often spotlighted in public health recommendations, boron is a mineral that is critical to our health, and has been of special interest in women in relationship to bone health and osteoporosis (bone softening). Boron is a trace mineral required to convert estrogen and vitamin D to their most active forms (17-beta-estradiol and 1,25-(OH)2D3 respectively). Estrogen levels drop after menopause causing osteoclasts to become more sensitive to parathyroid hormone, which signals them to break down bone. Studies have shown that boron provides protection against osteoporosis and reproduces many of the positive effects of estrogen therapy in postmenopausal women. Raisins are among the top 50 contributors to total dietary boron in the U.S. diet.
9. Raisins Promote Healthy Gums and Teeth - Raisins, despite being sweet and sticky, not only do not cause cavities and gum disease, but actually promote oral health. The phytonutrientss in raisins, specifically one called oleanolic acid, are highly effective in killing the bacteria that cause cavities (Streptococcus mutans) and periodontal dental disease (Porphyromonas gingivalis).
Plus, the sugars raisins contain-mainly fructose and glucose-are not as likely to contribute to cavities as sucrose, the main culprit in oral disease. So, add raisins to your morning cereal, lunch time fruit salad, or tossed green salad with dinner. You can satisfy your sweet tooth without sacrificing healthy teeth and gums.
10. Protection against Macular Degeneration - Your mother may have told you carrots would keep your eyes bright as a child, but as an adult, it looks like fruit is even more important for keeping your sight. Data reported in a study published in the Archives of Ophthalmology indicates that eating 3 or more servings of fruit per day may lower your risk of age-related macular degeneration (ARMD), the primary cause of vision loss in older adults, by 36%, compared to persons who consume less than 1.5 servings of fruit daily.
In this study, which involved over 110,000 women and men, researchers evaluated the effect of study participants' consumption of fruits; vegetables; the antioxidant vitamins A, C, and E; and carotenoids on the development of early ARMD or neovascular ARMD, a more severe form of the illness associated with vision loss.
While, surprisingly, intakes of vegetables, antioxidant vitamins and carotenoids were not strongly related to incidence of either form of ARMD, fruit intake was definitely protective against the severe form of this vision-destroying disease. Three servings of fruit may sound like a lot to eat each day, but raisins can help you reach this goal. Add a handful of raisins to your morning cereal; lunch time yogurt; fruit, vegetable or green salads. Virtually any grain dish is improved by the addition of raisins and nuts.
Hohoho.. enough with all data... what about for mind?? Actually, I don't discuss that with the children, the below are things I discussed:
Said the Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW: "Anyone who takes 21 red raisins everydaybefore breakfast, he will not fall into illness except the death. "
Ok..ok... when I studied last time I was told to take 21 raisins everyday and for every piece we must recite the Shalawat.
Imam Zuhdi once has said that, ” Whoever wants to memorize hadith, he should always eats raisins"
Well, I goes for the scientific basis, raisins contains of glucose and fructose that will give more energy to our body that can be easily supplied to our brain. Thus this will help us to use all the neurons for learning and memorizing process. Shalawat 'ala Nabi gives the barakah... it makes the raisins more useful...
